Another school year is coming to an end. Our Comfort Resource Closet pilot program at Crockett HS (S. Austin) has been a tremendous success. For this disadvantaged school, we provide toiletries, individual snacks and a limited amount of clothing due to storage constraints. A student coordinator sends me a list of items that need replenished each month. We are hoping to expand the program to disadvantaged middle and high schools in AISD in the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Thank you to all of you who have donated winter clothes for our winter clothing drive for Allison Elementary (E. Austin) and Navarro HS (N. Austin). Why Allison Elementary? I pass this school every Thursday on my way to do charity work at Esperanza Community (homeless camp) on 183S. Why Navarro High School? They were the only disadvantaged AISD high school that had the space for clothing racks and tables for shoes. We are always in need of summer and winter clothes fo elementary and high school students.
If you can donate please do the following so my volunteers maintain their sanity: Label your bag as Elementary or HS & Summer or Winter. Next, boy or girl, then, size sm, med, lg or xl Also, sizes 6, 8, 10, 12 or 30×30 pants, etc I can take donations any time since I have a large front porch at my home in Barton Creek West.
If you need to, we can arrange a place and time to meet for me to gather your donations. Please private message me for my address. Also, if you are a college graduate and are now willing to give up your treasured college tee shirts or accessories, we want them! We distribute those to disadvantaged high school seniors who are entering the various colleges. That’s a wrap up for now. Thank you to all the folks who have volunteered for various tasks and those who have donated clothes. You are helping students who do not have resources for extras. Your donations are tax deductible and there are donation receipts on my porch for pick up. Have a good weekend!
